WALKER-Lake Country Nordic Ski Club will add a new groomer to their trails maintenance program after the county board approved a low bid of $14,299 Tuesday from Westside Sports.
The club grooms four ski trails in Cass County with state grant in aid trail money channeled through the land department.
The 2017 Arctic Cat Bearcat 7000 Groomer Special will be paid for by 75 percent from a federal recreational trails grant and the remaining 25 percent split between the county and ski club.
Until now, the club has had to trailer groomers back and forth across the county to reach all ski trail areas.
The county board also awarded a contract to low bidder Ruyak Enterprises Inc. for $44,154.10, plus any additional taconite tails needed at $16.95 per cubic yard. This is for repairing the Soo Line ATV trail where washouts have been occurring.

Northfork Boulders and Excavating had the low bid to mow the Cut Lake, Snowflea, Mayo Creek, Vermillion, Thunder Lake, Smokey Hollow, Washburn, Old Grade and Homebrook Trails for $5,900.
Bolton & Menk Inc. submitted the low bid to survey four county administered properties preliminary to timber cutting for $35,350. Those parcels are in Walden and Bull Moose Townships.
Kohout Surveying won the contract with a low bid of $4,741 to survey a county site in Bungo Township.
North Country Janitorial Supply submitted the lowest of three bids to provide cleaning services at the land department building in Backus for $900 per month. The contract runs through July 31, 2018.
Minnesota DNR informed the county by letter that the DNR plans to purchase from a private landowner a parcel adjacent to existing state land near where the Crow Wing River enters the Mississippi.
