Challenging climate expected in search for employees

With 10,000 people retiring per day during the next 19 years, Crow Wing County administrator Tim Houle said the county will face challenges for labor.

The Pew Research Center confirmed the baby boomers began retiring at that rate as of 2011. The figure raises the question of where the county will get the labor talent it needs in this demographic shift, which will increase competition for employees. Houle said this atmosphere will make it more important to grow talent internally.

Budget season is right around the corner and Houle said department submittals are holding down the levy. Health care continues to be challenging, Houle said, promising more details with the budget committee in the future.

In other action, the board:

Appointed Christine Reisz to replace Jodie Provost on the Lands and Forestry Advisory Committee as a professional representative. The term extends through Jan. 31, 2015.

Peggy Rehberger was promoted to case aide in community services.
