A 31-year-old Brainerd man is accused of punching a woman with a closed fist multiple times and throwing an empty sippy cup that hit a 1-year-old child while the woman was feeding the child.

Tyler James Switajewski was charged Thursday, Dec. 13, in Crow Wing County District Court in Brainerd with felony terroristic threats, gross misdemeanor of endangering a child in a situation that could cause harm and two misdemeanors of domestic assault.

Bond was set at $30,000 with no conditions or $10,000 with conditions. His next court hearing was set at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 7, 2019.

According to the probable cause court document filed against Switajewski, at 9:36 a.m. Dec. 11 Brainerd police responded to a report of an assault at a residence in the city. Switajewski was accused of assaulting a woman known to him after an argument about his mental and physical health.

While the woman was in the kitchen attempting to feed her young child, Switajewski allegedly picked up an empty sippy cup in the living room and threw it into the kitchen. The cup bounced off of a cupboard near the floor and bounced up and struck the child in the lower mouth chin area. The child began to cry but did not appear injured, the complaint stated.

The woman stated Switajewski then struck her multiple times in the head, face and shoulder and kicked her. He also refused to let the woman and child leave the residence, and at one point threatened that he would "put a gun in her mouth" if she contacted police.

After the assault, the woman took the child out of the residence and drove to a café in Merrifield to get away from Switajewski and call the police.

Brainerd officers arrested Switajewski at the residence.

Law enforcement records indicates on Nov. 21, 2012, Switajewski physically assaulted the woman in the presence of one child. During that assault, Switajewski grabbed her by the neck and pushed her to the ground, hit her while she was on the ground and her child began to cry.
