Residents of a north Brainerd neighborhood saw more flashing lights than they bargained for on Christmas Day after a vehicle pursuit ended there.
A 30-year-old Brainerd man was arrested near Ivy Street and North Eighth Street after he fled the Minnesota State Patrol. According to the state patrol, a trooper initiated a traffic stop at 3:56 p.m. Thursday near North 10th Street and Fir Street for multiple traffic offenses. The driver, Alexander Howe, failed to stop and began fleeing from the trooper, leading him on a four-block chase before pulling into an alley.
Howe was arrested for felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and gross misdemeanor driving after cancellation while inimical to public safety (a designation given to those who have been charged with three or more DWIs).
He is currently awaiting formal charges in the Crow Wing County Jail, where according to the in-custody report, he faces two additional felonies for drug possession and a misdemeanor for theft. The Minnesota State Patrol was unable to confirm if these pending charges are related to the chase and reported the investigation is ongoing.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office and the Brainerd Police Department assisted at the scene.
