Frovik to lead worship service

Pastor Terry Frovik, retired minister of Lake Shore and member of Lutheran Church of the Cross, will lead the 19th Sunday of Pentecost worship service at Bethel Lutheran this Sunday, Sept. 30.

Sunday School and coffee fellowship will follow at 10 a.m. Choir practice will conclude the morning.

Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. the Bible study continues.

Thursday, Oct. 4, the ladies of the church will participate in the ELCA Fall Gathering at First Lutheran, Brainerd, and provide afternoon coffee.

Trinity to present Bibles to 3rd-graders

This Sunday, Sept. 30, Trinity Lutheran Church, 1620 S. Sixth St., Brainerd, will be presenting Bibles to all third graders in the Sunday school at both services.

There will be two services on Sunday with Holy Communion at 8:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Pastor Hans Anderson will deliver the sermon.

The Education Hour and Coffee Hour will be between the services.

The last five sermons of Pastor Dave Holte upon his retirement are now available on DVD. Persons interested in obtaining a copy can call the church office at 829-5147. There is a nominal fee with proceeds going to the Crop Walk.

Back to the '50s party set Oct. 6

NISSWA-The 16th annual Back To The '50s Party will be from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Christ Community Church, 24646 Hazelwood Drive, Nisswa.

The public is invited to come and enjoy an evening of food, fun, dancing, door prizes and contests. Hamburger, cheeseburger and hot dog baskets as well as root beer floats will be served at nearly '50s prices. Everyone is encouraged to dress in '50s style and participate in hula hoop, bubblegum blowing and limbo contests and join in the fun of doing the hokey pokey, the YMCA, the chicken dance as well as many other dances. There will be lots of '50s music and door prizes. This is an evening of inexpensive food and fun for all ages, especially for the young and the young at heart.

Douglas to present climate change talk

NISSWA-Paul Douglas, one of Minnesota's best known and respected meteorologists, will talk about climate change from a Christian perspective at 1 p.m. Oct. 6, at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 5064 County Road 13, Nisswa.

The presentation is free and open to the public.

The event is hosted by LCC's Creation Care Team and the EcoFaith Network of the Northeast Minnesota Synod ELCA. Area ELCA Lutheran churches are co-hosts, including including Lord of Life Lutheran,Baxter, Bethlehem Lutheran, Brainerd, Trinity Lutheran, Brainerd, First Lutheran Brainerd, Our Savior's Lutheran, Pequot, Crosslake Lutheran, and First Lutheran, Aitkin.

Douglas, co-author of the book "Creation Care," has over 30 years of experience in television and radio. As a Christian and scientist, he believes it is our personal responsibility to protect God's creation for current and future generations. He will discuss what is happening with climate change and how it will affect all of us. By connecting the dots between science and faith, Douglas will offer realistic and hopeful solutions for Christians to take the lead in addressing climate change.

Attendees will have an opportunity to submit questions after the presentation and share refreshments.

St. Andrew's Catholic Church to host groundbreaking ceremony

BRAINERD - St. Andrew's Catholic Church is celebrating the beginning of its construction project with a groundbreaking ceremony following the 10 a.m. Mass Sunday, Sept. 30.

Some urgent repairs and facility improvements are already underway and soon St. Andrew's will be making the nave of the church more accessible with a gently sloped floor. "A beautiful new entry has been designed on the west side, adjacent to the parking lot, making our building more visible as a church. Additional new construction will give us a larger social hall and provide more flexibility in the use of the space.

"We are so grateful to all who have committed their time, talents and treasure and have made

this possible. Please join us as we embark on this awesome endeavor," St. Andrew's reported in a news release.

Bluegrass concert set Sunday

CROSSLAKE-The monthly bluegrass concert is 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at Crosslake Christian Assembly of God Church. There will be old time hymns and music.
