The Central Lakes College Spanish Department invites community members to participate in a travel study program to Cuernavaca, Mexico, from March 8-16, 2019.
Participants can save $100 by signing up before Sept. 15.
This trip coincides with the spring semester Global Studies 1491 course, which meets on four Tuesday evenings during the first half of semester. Interested learners can either sign up for the course or participate as a community member.
Participants will accompany CLC Spanish instructors Shannon Klint and Tracey Kloeckl-Jiménez to study at the Academic Spanish Language Institute in Cuernavaca, Mexico. The group will explore the pyramids in the ancient civilization of Teotihuacán, visit the Basilica to the Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico City, travel through the canals and floating gardens of Xochimilco, visit Frida Kahlo's Casa Azul ("Blue House"), explore Hernán Cortes' palace and the cathedral of Cuernavaca and visit with the vendors of a typical Mexican open-air market in the city of Tepotztlán.
Students will stay with local families close to the school and enjoy typical Mexican dishes. In this course, students will fully immerse themselves in the Spanish-speaking culture of Mexico. Interested students and community members should call Kloeckl-Jiménez at 218-855-8183 as soon as possible, as the course is almost full.
