STILLWATER - Cottage Grove City Council member Derrick Lehrke has been charged with careless driving and two counts of speeding in connection with a July traffic stop.

STILLWATER - Cottage Grove City Council member Derrick Lehrke has been charged with careless driving and two counts of speeding in connection with a July traffic stop.

Prosecutor Jim Shiely filed the charges of careless driving, misdemeanor speeding and speeding Thursday in Washington County District Court.

The summons complaint signed by a judge Wednesday alleges that Lehrke was captured on police squad car radar traveling over 100 mph at about 2 a.m. July 30 on southbound Highway 61 in Cottage Grove.

Lehrke was arrested for suspected third-degree drunken driving but was later released without being jailed after he agreed to take a breath test and his blood-alcohol concentration measured within the legal limit.

Lehrke, who is seeking re-election to the Cottage Grove City Council this fall, denied in a recent interview that he was driving over 100 mph.
