Crash at intersection sends 1 to hospital

A Cass County deputy was among the units responding to a crash where according to the Minnesota State Patrol, a Ford pickup was traveling south on Highway 371 near Highway 87, and a Chrysler Town and Country was traveling north on Highway 371. The Ford attempted to make a left turn when it was struck by the oncoming Chrysler.

BACKUS — A 50-year-old Pine River woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 3:25 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, on highways 371 and 87 in Backus.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a Ford pickup, driven by Pam L. Lamont, 50, Pine River, was traveling south on Highway 371 near Highway 87, when a Chrysler Town and Country, driven by Colleen S. Norby, 81, Backus, was traveling north on Highway 371. The Ford attempted to make a left turn when it was struck by the oncoming Chrysler.

Norby was not injured. Lamont suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by North Memorial Health Ambulance to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd. Lamont’s passenger Kenneth P. Mason, 48, Bemidji, was not injured.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office assisted the state patrol at the scene.
