A Cass Lake man was injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Itasca County, which claimed the life of another passenger in the vehicle.

The crash was reported at 11:37 p.m. Friday on Highway 65.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported Michael P. Vail, 32, Cass Lake, a passenger in the vehicle, suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. The vehicle's driver, Christopher G. Smith, 29, Bemidji, also suffered non-life-threatening injuries. A second passenger, Mark Wirtjes, 56, Bovey, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Smith and Vail were transported to area hospitals for treatment.

Smith was driving south on Highway 65 near Goodland when the Ford truck he was driving left the road, rolled and came to a stop in the ditch, the state patrol reported. Road conditions were wet. Wirtjes was not wearing a seat belt. It's unknown if Smith or Vail were wearing seat belts.

Alcohol was detected in Vail and Smith.
