Crash sends woman to St. Cloud Hospital with life-threatening injuries

MILACA — A 22-year-old Hill City woman suffered life-threatening injuries Tuesday night, Feb. 4, in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 169, south of Milaca in Mille Lacs County.

The Minnesota State Patrol responded to the crash at 11:48 p.m. in Milo Township. The injured woman, Mardon E. So, was driving a Honda Civic north on the right shoulder of Highway 169 and Tracy A. Vaughn, 59, Foreston, was driving a Chevy Express van north on Highway 169. The state patrol reported So accelerated away from the shoulder in what appeared to be a U-turn attempt to head south, when the van hit the Honda on the driver’s side in the northbound lane.

So was airlifted to the St. Cloud Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The state patrol indicated So had alcohol in her system and it was unknown if she wore her seat belt.

Vaughn had no apparent injury. It was also unknown if she wore her seat belt.

The Milaca police and fire departments and the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office assisted the state patrol at the scene.
