Crash seriously injures woman in Cass Lake

A woman was seriously injured Thursday when the Pontiac Bonneville she was in was rear-ended on Highway 371 in Cass Lake and then struck by a truck pulling a boat and trailer.

A woman was seriously injured Thursday when the Pontiac Bonneville she was in was rear-ended on Highway 371 in Cass Lake and then struck by a truck pulling a boat and trailer.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported Emily M. Woodfield, 55, Cass Lake, was driving the Bonneville southbound on Highway 371 and was slowing to turn onto 137th Street, when it was rear-ended by a Toyota Sienna driven by Dahir A. Bariise, 56, Minneapolis. The state patrol said the Bonneville was pushed into the northbound lane on Highway 371, where it was struck by a Ford Super Duty truck pulling a boat and trailer, driven by Mark V. Orth, 59, Prior Lake.

Woodfield was transported to Sanford Health in Bemidji for serious injuries.

Orth and his two passengers, Vernon O. Orth, 78, Nisswa, and Tyler J. Orth, 29, Somerset, Wis., had no apparent injuries.

Bariise had no apparent injuries, but two of his passengers, David A. Fineday, 56, Minneapolis, and Leo L. Denasha, 37, Deer River, had non-life-threatening injuries. Fineday was taken to the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo and Denasha was taken to the Bemidji hospital. The state patrol reported Bariise and his two passengers were not wearing their seat belts.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office assisted the state patrol at the crash reported at 7:22 a.m.
