Nurse accused of defrauding Mayo Clinic of over $70K

WASECA — A nurse manager for Mayo Clinic is accused of making nearly $71,000 in false mileage reimbursement claims.

Christine Chadderdon, 50, of Le Center, was charged with felony theft by swindle Thursday in Waseca County District Court.

Chadderdon worked as a nurse manager for the Mayo Clinic clinics in Waseca, Janesville and Waterville and resigned after finance staff began investigating unusually high travel expenses in Chadderdon's department.

A Mayo analyst discovered Chadderdon had received nearly $72,000 in mileage reimbursements between 2015 and 2018, according to a court complaint. Further investigation allegedly further found that Chadderdon claimed trips she never made, including on days she was not at work.

She also allegedly inflated the number of miles traveled, including numerous submissions claiming round trips from Waseca to Mankato were 112 miles.

Based on the digital calendar Chadderdon left behind on her computer, a Mayo investigator estimated she should have received around $1,300 in reimbursements between 2015 and 2018.
