A 20-year-old Brainerd man faces domestic assault charges after an incident that began with the victim making food in the bathroom at his residence.
Taylor Chris Schoenborn was charged Nov. 6 in Crow Wing District Court with felony domestic assault by strangulation and gross misdemeanor domestic assault.
The charges stem from a 911 call to the Brainerd Police Department at 12:12 p.m. Nov. 5 of an incident at a residence in Brainerd. When police arrived on scene, a woman who had a swollen and bloody lower lip, exited the residence, the criminal complaint stated. The woman also had marks on the left side of her face. The victim stated she had been making food in the bathroom when Schoenborn, whom she knows, woke up and needed to use the bathroom and was pounding on the door. The victim stated she told him he needed to wait until she could finish. Schoenborn kept pounding on the door, forced his way in and then punched her in the face.
The victim attempted to get to the bedroom to get her cellphone and attempted to leave. She noticed her cellphone was down to 5% so she tried to get a phone charger. Schoenborn was yelling at her, telling her to hurry up and that she was not fast enough. He then grabbed her by the hair and threw her to the ground, and grabbed her by the neck and the arm, the complaint stated. The woman stated she did not say anything while he was grabbing her by the neck and did not answer him as she could not breathe and had restricted airflow. She stated she was able to eventually get away and then she called law enforcement.
An officer then spoke with Schoenborn outside of the residence. Schoenborn stated he was extremely upset he could not use the bathroom in his own house. He admitted to pounding on the door but denied assaulting the victim. Officers then arrested Schoenborn.
According to court documents, Schoenborn has a criminal history of prior qualified domestic violence-related offense from 2018.
Schoenborn has since been released from jail and his next court hearing is scheduled at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 16.
