CROSBY - The city of Crosby is holding a kick-off event to engage residents in planning for the city's future growth and development.

The kick-off event is 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Crosby City Hall.

All people interested in the future of the city of Crosby are invited to attend. The purpose of the event is to share and receive information needed for the city to update its comprehensive plan and also to discuss future demonstration projects and events related to the project.

Charles Marohn, a planner and engineer with Community Growth Institute of Brainerd, will make a presentation at 6 p.m. on local and statewide planning trends and issues facing small towns today. Marohn has presented the "Curbside Chat" hundreds of times across the country.

Multiple opportunities for public participation and feedback will be provided. More information is available by contacting project manager Justin Burslie at burslie@communitygrowth.net or 828-3064.

A comprehensive plan guides the future growth, development and decision-making of a community. It answers three simple questions: What is the community like today? What does the community want to become? How is it going to get there? While these are simple questions, the answers are frequently complex, with far-reaching implications for the future of the community. Crosby's Comprehensive Plan was last updated in 1998.

Community Growth Institute is a planning organization that works exclusively with small towns. Marohn is a professional engineer licensed in Minnesota, a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, a radio commentator and founder of Strong Towns - a Brainerd-based not-for-profit organization that supports a model for growth that allows America's towns to become financially strong and resilient.
