CROSSLAKE-Crosslake was selected as one of two communities the Minnesota Design Team will work with in 2016.
A community-wide meeting will take place to begin planning efforts for the team's arrival Sept. 16 and 17. The meeting will be 4:30-6 p.m. June 14 at the Crosslake Community Center shelter, 14126 Daggett Pine Road. The meeting will be facilitated by Dan Frank from the Initiative Foundation. Root beer floats will be served.
The Minnesota Design Team is an American Institute of Architects Minnesota committee in existence since 1983. The group is comprised of professionals who volunteer their time to assist communities in recognizing opportunities for future growth, a news release stated. Their purpose is to make recommendations that communities can adopt, or not, based on ideas presented by the design team and community members.
"Its multidisciplinary teams have worked with more than 130 rural communities helping them to improve their built environments," the institute's website stated.
Frank of the Initiative Foundation is the senior program manager for community development and has been with the foundation since 2001. Through his position, he has served more than 70 communities in central Minnesota through the Healthy Community Partnership and Thriving Community Initiative programs. These programs have trained more than 1,000 local community leaders, working with them to implement positive community change through collaboration, the release stated.

Frank's background includes four years as a community education director and 35-plus years in nonprofit and for-profit business management.
