A roadside initiative project to connect residents to help clean up ditches along county roads in Crow Wing County will be unveiled next month.
The project will bring together residents and local organizations to assist in roadside cleanup across the county using a phone app, a news release stated. It will also include a “fun twist” that will bring a sense of ownership to county roads, according to officials.
“The highway department has always been very proactive on keeping county roads and ditches clean,” Jory Danielson, highway maintenance supervisor, stated in the release.
Residents are encouraged to participate in roadside cleanup. Many local groups take part in annual spring roadside cleanup on weekends in April and May.
“What’s great about this project is we took feedback from some really engaged residents who were already volunteering to clean up our roadways. We’ve been able to springboard off of that idea and create a user-friendly app that will bring a sense of pride to our county roads,” Danielson said.

There are 550 miles of county roads and an additional 63 miles in the First Assessment District and the Second Assessment District.
