The Crow Wing County Highway Department reminded residents in a news release obsolete fire number signs can be problematic for highway crews performing maintenance work in county road right-of-ways.
For the last fifteen years, emergency personnel have used the blue address signs with white letters and will continue to use those signs when responding to emergencies. A majority of these signs are installed at the back of the right-of-way. This allows maintenance crews to more efficiently work and improves consistency of sign location for emergency responders, the release stated.
Property owners are advised to cut back brush and remove objects obstructing the view of the blue signs. Replacements for damaged signs or new signs are available by contacting Crow Wing County Land Services at 218-824-1127.
The county highway department encourages those who have obsolete fire number signs to remove the sign and post from the right-of-way. Signs and posts may be dropped off at the Crow Wing County Highway Department, 16589 County Road 142, Brainerd, or the Crosslake joint maintenance facility, 13870 Whipple Drive, Crosslake. The signs and posts will be recycled.
