The Crow Wing County Historical Society and Museum celebrates the museum building's centennial this year.

The museum was once the Crow Wing County jail and sheriff's residence, built in 1917. The historical society has used the building since 1983.

"We are going to celebrate this milestone with a fun afternoon," stated Pam Nelson, Crow Wing County Historical Society administrator, in a news release. "This building houses a wealth of county history and continues to tell its story connecting us to yesterday."

The birthday celebration will be 2-4:30 p.m. June 16 at the museum, 320 Laurel St., Brainerd. A short ceremony will be at 2:30 p.m. Come for some cake and refreshments, exhibits and meet sheriffs from both past and present.

The museum has three floors of exhibits, including displays on the lumber industry, the railroads and home life. Visitors can venture into their own histories using the museum's research library, look through hundreds of historical photocopies, maps and books. They may also page through newspapers going back to the late 1800s.
