Crow Wing County will no longer handle passport applications beginning Jan. 1, 2016.
The Brainerd post office, located at 422 Laurel St., will continue to accept passport applications 9:30 a.m. through 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Customers needing to apply for a passport may visit the U.S. Department of State website at www.travel.state.gov for passport acceptance facility locations and forms.
"The county board remains committed to reviewing the services delivered by Crow Wing County to ensure we are providing mandated county services at the best possible level," stated Chairman Paul Koering in a news release. "While issuing passports was a convenience we offered, it is not required for counties, and with the post office issuing passports right next door, there are more effective ways for the taxpayer resources to be utilized."
