Crow Wing Power seeks applicants for community award

Crow Wing Power is seeking applications for an annual Touchstone Energy Community Award, which recognizes businesses, nonprofits and community groups that have shown a strong commitment to the community.

Any organization that has helped make the lakes area a better place to live and work is eligible for the $500 cash award. Organizations do not have to be a cooperative member but should serve people within the cooperative’s service area in Cass, Crow Wing and Morrison counties.

Community members may nominate an organization, association or business or an organization may apply by completing an application form on the News and Events page at . Questions may be directed to Public Relations Manager Char Kinzer at 218-829-2827.

The application will require a description of the project, program or event and the positive impact it brought to the community. Completed applications must be submitted by Oct. 31.

“As an electric cooperative serving this area, we have a high regard for community involvement,” Kinzer said in a news release. “This award allows us to highlight and encourage those individuals or organizations that have shown an outstanding commitment to the community. This year more than ever we have many organizations working together to meet the needs during the COVID-19 pandemic.”


The local award recipient will be announced Nov. 10 and will receive $500 and an honorary plaque and will then contend for the statewide Touchstone Energy Community Award, which has a cash prize of $1,000. The statewide award winner will be recognized at the Minnesota Rural Electric Association annual meeting in 2021.

The Minnesota Touchstone Energy cooperatives are part of a national alliance of more than 700 electric cooperatives in 46 states that adhere to the values of integrity, accountability, innovation and commitment to community.
