STAPLES-Per request of area producers, this year's feedlot meeting will go north to the Staples area for the first time.

The meeting will be 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. March 16 at the Central Lakes College campus in Staples. With the ever-growing number of attendees, CLC can accommodate the crowds in its newly renovated and spacious forum area. Last year's meeting filled all 170 seats, and 2017 topics are equally likely to pique the interest of just as many, a news release stated.

A new addition this year is TODTalks-Ideas Worth "Spreading" (a spin-off of public radio's TED Talk series). TODTalks will feature local producers discussing the status of agriculture in Todd County, along with decisions and transitions made to survive the ebb of agriculture.

Amongst the list of presentations for the day is:

• Integrating livestock into cropping systems by Kent Solberg.

• Uncovering the myths of cover crops: What works and what doesn't in Todd County by James Schroepfer - Ag Resource Consulting.

• I just can't picture it: Vegetative treatment areas and other feedlot solutions by West Central Technical Engineers.

• Pasture versus feedlot and other topics we don't like by Deja Anton, Soil and Water Conservation District, and Russ Kleinschmidt, Natural Resources Conservation Service.

This year's event and buffet, catered by Ted and Gen's Bar-BQ, is free to producers within Todd County and Crow Wing County (limited). The coffee and pastry social starts at 9:30 a.m.
