Gov. Mark Dayton will join Minnesota Commissioner of Health Dr. Ed Ehlinger to kick off the 2014 Community Health Conference on Thursday with a discussion about building a healthy Minnesota. The annual conference, expected to draw more than 400 public health workers from across the state, is set for Sept. 18-19 in Brainerd.
A Minnesota Department of Health spokesman said Dayton was scheduled to speak from 8:15-9:15 a.m Thursday at Cragun's Resort.
Organized by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) in partnership with the State Community Health Services Advisory Committee, the Community Health Conference is an annual gathering of local elected officials, tribal and community health leaders, MDH staff, and colleagues from health plans, health care and other sectors. The conference includes nearly 30 break-out sessions on public health topics such as mental health, infectious disease, health equity and emergency preparedness.
The conference provides public health professionals with an opportunity to learn from their peers and national experts about emerging, promising and proven practices for building public health, while honing their skills to the benefit of their communities.
