RED WING - A deckhand on a barge sustained serious injuries Sunday after being pinned between the barge and the lock wall at a lock and dam on the Mississippi River.
Clayton Little, 30, Reagan, Tenn., was flown to St. Marys campus of the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester after the accident.
He was on a south-bound barge that was tied to the lock wall awaiting a tugboat at U.S. Lock & Dam 3 north of Red Wing. He was crushed against the lock wall in a ladder well, according to Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office.
Little was able to climb out, authorities said, and flown by Mayo One helicopter.
