A 22-year-old Deerwood man faces a long list of charges after fleeing from authorities Tuesday night in the city of Brainerd.
Jessey Duane Johnson was booked in Crow Wing County jail at 1:11 a.m. Wednesday. His charges include felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, two felony counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, felony fourth-degree assault, felony first-degree property damage, gross misdemeanor third-degree driving while intoxicated with a controlled substance, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving after revocation.
The police chase began about 9 p.m. when a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Johnson, failed to stop during a traffic intervention initiated by the Minnesota State Patrol on Highway 210, also known as Washington Street, and Fifth Street North in Brainerd.
The state patrol said the vehicle was pursued by the patrol to an area with rough terrain. The Jeep was able to separate from the state patrol briefly, but was located by the Brainerd Police Department.
The Jeep proceeded to strike one of the Brainerd police squad units head-on causing heavy front damage to both vehicles. The state patrol said two other Brainerd police squads attempted legal intervention to immobilize the Jeep. The Jeep was stopped at 13th Street Southeast and Oak Street across from Lakes Printing by Brainerd police.
Johnson was taken by North Memorial Ambulance to Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries and then was taken into custody.
Assisting the state patrol and the Brainerd Police Department was the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office and the Brainerd Fire Department.
