GARRISON-A 34-year-old man was arrested Sunday after allegedly stealing food and clothing at a residence he broke into in Garrison.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office was called at 10:23 a.m. to a burglary in progress at a residence on the 6100 block of Holiday Harbor Drive in Garrison. It was learned the homeowner, who was not home, was notified of an alarm at his residence. He called a neighbor to go check the house. While the neighbor was checking the house, he discovered an unknown man walking around inside the house, the sheriff's office reported. The neighbor then called 911.

While officers were responding, another call came to the sheriff's office indicating that a man was attempting to steal a car from a neighboring house. Shortly after deputies arrived, they located a 34-year-old Kenyon man, who was taken into custody.

Through the investigation, it was determined the suspect gained entry into the house through an unlocked garage window. While inside the house, the suspect took items of clothing and food from the residence. He was unsuccessful in stealing the victim's car as he could not locate the keys.

The suspect was booked into the Crow Wing County Jail and is awaiting for formal charges of second-degree burglary, property damage and theft.
