The Wadena County Sheriff's Office is investigating a report of a dog shot and killed at a campground in the county.
The sheriff's office received a report Sunday, Feb. 17, of a dead dog, as well as several bullet cartridge casings found around the dog. Deputies from the sheriff's office arrived at the campground and located the dog in a river. The dog had a collar and leash attached, but no tags. The dog was removed from the river. At the time of the call, it was unknown who owned the dog.
At 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, the sheriff's office received tips about a video posted on Facebook showing a person shooting a dog. The dog was wearing a collar connected to a leash and lying down in the snow. The video shows the person shooting the dog one time and then another person kicking snow on the dog. The dog appeared motionless before and after the gunshot. There were names attached to the Facebook video post and follow-up was conducted by sheriff's deputies with the people involved.
This incident remains under investigation and the Wadena County Sheriff's Office is consulting with the Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley on the case.
