The Crow Wing County Highway Department reminded residents and guests it is a violation of state statute to place signs or other objects within the county road right-of-way in a news release.
Common items include advertising of garage sales, graduations and real estate sales. Large objects such as boats and vehicles are also common right-of-way encroachments posing a hazard to the traveling public.
County highway maintenance workers are authorized to remove any object in violation of state statute or that which compromises roadway safety. Objects collected from the road right-of-way are available for retrieval by contacting the highway department.
"The width of the roadway right-of-way varies greatly in Crow Wing County," the release stated. "Before placing items that may be an encroachment, contact the highway department for verification."
