Driver attempts to pass snowplow, goes into ditch

The Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the crash reported at 5:22 a.m.

MCGREGOR — A 51-year-old man driving a 2017 Honda Fit and his passenger were injured Monday, Dec. 21, when he tried passing a snowplow on Highway 6, about four miles north of McGregor 5 in Aitkin County.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported the snowplow was traveling south on Highway 65 in Shamrock Township, attempting to make a left hand turn onto Aitkin County Highway 6. The Honda passed the snowplow on the left hand side, when it lost control and went into the ditch and struck a culvert, the crash report stated.

The driver of the Honda, David C. Cardinal, 51, of Cotton, and his passenger, Kimberly K. Huotari, 56, McGregor, both suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to an area hospital.

The snowplow driver, Kyle L. Vandermey, 32, of McGregor, was not injured.

The Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the crash reported at 5:22 a.m.

The state patrol reported the roads were icy at the time of the crash.
