CROOKSTON - A convicted sex offender was sentenced Thursday to eight and a half years in prison for sexual conduct involving two children.

Marcus Gene Hill, 33, of East Grand Forks, pleaded guilty in April in Polk County District Court to two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, and he was dismissed on two other charges Thursday: first-degree criminal sexual conduct and first-degree attempted criminal sexual conduct.

Hill was sentenced to 102 months at St. Cloud Correctional Facility on one of the second-degree charges, and 60 months on the other, but he'll serve the two sentences at the same time.

Hill was also given credit for time already served behind bars, but court records didn't specify how much.

He will be on some sort of conditional release for the rest of his life when he gets out of prison, and must register as a predatory offender.

The sexual conduct of the children, who were under the age of 16, took place over a period of five years, court documents state.

Hill was previously convicted of second-degree criminal sexual conduct in April 2004 in St. Louis County, Minn.
