Dwan Eckstrom was named as Rookie of the Year at a recent regular noon meeting of the Brainerd Area Sertoma Club held each week at Connie's Kitchen.
"I love to give back to the community," Eckstrom said in her acceptance speech, according to a news release from Sertoma.
Eckstrom has been active in the club since she started less than a year ago. When she moved back to the Brainerd lakes area, she wanted to get out and meet people as well as give back to the community. She reached out to one of the club's friends at Camp Confidence who told her that she had a few options: volunteer at Camp Confidence, join Sertoma or be a classroom volunteer for Junior Achievement. Eckstrom is involved with Camp Confidence already as a part-time sales person for pulltabs at Ernie's on Gull.
Eckstrom has a son, a daughter who recently signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Central Lakes College next year and a granddaughter. She works regionally and locally monitoring offenders who wear ankle bracelets. Her territory includes three other counties in Minnesota, one in Wisconsin and one in North Dakota. Her work is mainly done through the computer and the phone although she does install bracelets locally. Her hobbies include hunting, camping, and traveling. She recently became associated with World Ventures.
Eckstrom has participated in Sertoma's Winter Wonderland. She works with Pipe and Drape and recently volunteered to be on the committee preparing for the 10th anniversary of Winter Wonderland. She also was Sertoman of the Month.
