PR-B students celebrate Farm to School Month with apple crunch
Pine River-Backus third-graders celebrated national Farm to School Month on Thursday, Oct. 11, by participating in the Great Lakes Apple Crunch with fresh McIntosh and Honey Crisp apples.
Pine River-Backus is celebrating a 15-year partnership with local farmers providing fresh produce in the school lunchroom.
Food Service Director Jill Blanchard said, "We are extremely proud of the partnership with local farmers and the success in and out of the lunchroom."
University of Minnesota SNAP Education Educator Jolene Harris has been working with Pine River-Backus third-graders in the classroom on the benefits and importance of incorporating fruits and vegetables into their daily routine, as well as partnering with Blanchard and the kitchen staff working together to make the healthy choice the easy choice for students.
