Local student nominated for Outstanding Senior Award
St. Mary's University of Minnesota, in Winona, announced that public relations major Nathan Young, the son of Glen and Kitty Young, of Brainerd, was nominated for the university's Outstanding Senior Male Award.
For the past 51 years, St. Mary's has honored a male and female senior who have demonstrated the ideals of scholarship, character, leadership, service to colleagues and the university community, as well as genuine concern for the needs of others.
Young has demonstrated these qualities through his many involvements. He participated in Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity, Outdoor Leadership activities and Campus Ministry. He worked as a resident assistant for two years, and for the Marketing and Communication Department as a video production intern.
He also competed on the men's water polo team.
Young is currently studying at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary for the Catholic Diocese of Duluth. After graduation, he plans to study further at St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul.
The Outstanding Senior Male and Female Awards were presented during the university's Founders' Day celebration on March 12 to Maxwell Champa, of Bloomington, and Bailey O'Hare, of Rushford, Minn.
