Two more property acquisitions move the Brainerd School District one step closer to seeing one of its building projects come to fruition.
After nearly two hours in closed session Monday, April 8, Brainerd School Board members reconvened their meeting and approved the acquisition of 1601 Oak St. and an adjacent, unaddressed property with parcel no. 09181016008B009.
These acquisitions will allow for renovations to Harrison Elementary School. Plans include a classroom addition, a 40-stall parking lot and a new playground.

Authorized the following staff resignations, retirements and terminations: Deanna Bobzien, adult basic education teacher, resignation; Blair Boileau, special education teacher at Forestview Middle School, resignation; Bonnie Henningson, early childhood special education coordinator at the Paul Bunyan Education Cooperative, retirement; Howard Jacobs, history teacher at Brainerd Learning Center, retirement; Emily Jerome, first grade teacher at Baxter Elementary, non-renewal; Jordan Laxen, first grade teacher at Riverside Elementary, resignation; Lois Malepsy, occupational therapist at Paul Bunyan Education Cooperative, retirement; Mary Parsons, special education teacher at Riverside, retirement; Joshua Rudbeck, special education teacher at Brainerd High School, resignation; Robert Anderson, custodian at Forestview, retirement; Lori Archer, special education paraprofessional at Lincoln Education Center, retirement; Brian Dunn, district custodian, termination; Katelyn Jindra, special education paraprofessional at Riverside, resignation; Sandra Lander, paraprofessional at Garfield Elementary, retirement; Bruce Moe, custodian at Forestview, retirement; Dena Ruikka, special education paraprofessional at BHS, resignation; Lynn Teufert, food service at BHS south campus, retirement; Melissa Yunker, special education paraprofessional at BHS south campus, resignation.
Accepted gifts and donations to the district: $100 from Winner's Trophy & Engraving for the Forestview food pantry; $1,000 from Dorcas for the Forestview food pantry; $1,000 from Graphic Packaging for BHS robotics; $4,000 donated anonymously for the district's summer reading program; $5,000 from Mills Motors for community education driving simulators; $956.84 from American Steel for BHS welding.
Approved a field trip request for the BHS A Capella choir to go to Puerto Rico in February 2020 for a cultural immersion and music performance trip.
Approved a field trip request for the knowledge bowl team to go to the state tournament at Cragun's Resort on Gull Lake April 10-11.
Tabled decisions on the purchase agreement and development agreement with the city of Baxter for property on Jasperwood Drive to be used for the district's new elementary school. Director of Business Services Marci Lord said the district is waiting on some legal counsel on the properties and will likely bring the measure before the board again either Monday, April 15, or April 22.
Approved a five-year printer lease agreement with Marco Technologies.
Scheduled a special board meeting for 11 a.m. Monday, April 15, at the Washington Educational Services Building.
