Groundbreaking ceremonies are planned for three elementary school projects in the Brainerd School District.

A ceremony for the new Baxter Elementary School will kick off festivities at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, at the site of the new school.

Harrison Elementary School's ceremony will follow at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, with Nisswa Elementary planned for 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 23.

Celebrations will include speeches and presentations from students, staff and community members.

In the case of inclement weather, the ceremonies at Harrison and Nisswa will move into the gymnasiums, while the Baxter event will move to 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 24.

To reach the new Baxter site, go south on Ironwood Drive at the roundabout on Highland Scenic Road just west of Highway 371. Watch for the signs to turn right off Ironwood Drive onto the grassy road that will become Jasperwood Drive. A stage, podium and chairs will be set up. At the end of the ceremony, attendees will continue south on the future Jasperwood Drive and exit the site onto Mapleton Road.
