Art focus: Brainerd High School TV Productions II
Adviser nomination: “Abbey is an instrumental part of our TV Productions II class, which also happens to be our Warrior Weekly crew. There are many jobs asked of these kids, including producing weekly stories, studio production jobs and videotaping various school events. Abbey accepts every job given to her without complaint. She quietly puts her nose to the grindstone and does quality work with each assignment.”
Memorable fine arts achievement: “Last year, we did a video in TV Productions. It was a skit that was tragic but funny. My dad died and disappeared and randomly appeared. I couldn’t cry right away so they splashed water in my face. It was funny.”
Artist most admired: Picasso.
Other fine arts activities: “I’m in Artist Books and next semester I took Introduction to Visual Arts.”
Why did you take TV Productions: “I decided to take this class because I wanted to experience videography and see how it works and how things are put together. I like how you get to do what you want to do and you also get to show off what others want (to see).
“I enjoy going around talking with the people I have to interview or film. It gets me more into the community and I know what’s going on and can sort of be a part of it in a way.
What have you done this semester: “This year I’ve done stuff on the blood drive, today I was doing a thing on the choir for their Madrigal Dinner. I do the writing, editing and videography.”
Tell me your role in class: “Everyone has a partner they work with. We split up who will take the video, who will ask the questions and who will edit. When we go into the studio to film for the ‘Warrior Weekly’ everyone switches out jobs each time so we all get to experience everything.”
Favorite part to play in “Warrior Weekly”: “I have been the floor director, the camera director and VTR (video tape recorder). VTR is probably my favorite and floor director.
“Even though VTR can be pretty stressful because you have to get stuff set up, I like putting it together and I feel I am pretty fast when I do that. I like floor director because then I can yell at people, not in a mean way, though. The floor director is inside the studio and there is another director inside the studio who talks to the floor director. The director will tell the floor director things like make sure they have camera three move up or tell the talents or anchors to be ready to film. I look forward to playing the other roles. The talent/anchor would be fun to play and you’re on the TV screen and reading stuff, seems interesting to do.
“The ‘Warrior Weekly’ comes out every Thursday. We produce it on Wednesdays and it goes out during WIN (What I Need) on Thursday. I enjoy it for the fact that everyone gets to see it around the school, not just us. Everyone can see what we do. It’s fun to have people watch stuff and informing people about school activities.”
Worst task: “Audio because there are all these buttons, even though you only use certain ones. You have to make sure the talent’s audio is working and that it is muted when you have video playing over it. You may have to bump the audio or make the audio less depending on who’s talking.”
Most challenging: “Trying to come up with an idea for our T.G.I.T. (Thank God It’s Thursday). TGIT is a skit set we do for fun. It’s always difficult coming up with ideas. But once we have an idea it’s always fun. It is part of our ‘Warrior Weekly.’
“The first skit we did was a VSCO Girl skit. These are girls who have scrunchies, short shorts on and have a Hydro Flask. It’s so weird, but if you watch it on T.G.I.T. it makes total sense. The last one we did was a Joe Mama one.”
Dream job: “When I was little I wanted to be an actress. I think it would be fun to do stuff with movies and TV shows. I wouldn’t mind to go into it as a career.”
