Electrical Options is moving into the former Schwiky Meats site at H Street and Mill Avenue.

A combination of a wholesale supplier and retail store, Electrical Options provides sales, service and repair on electrical motors and electrical controls. The business supplies motors to light industrial companies, as well as repairs or in building controls to operate equipment. In addition, the business provides service to residents and contractors such as testing and repairing motors.

They work on everything from conveyors to motors for table saws, spas or pools, air-conditioners, shallow-well pumps.

Clarence Witschen has worked in the field for 35 years. For the past six years, he has his own home-based business in Fort Ripley. But having a business at home has good points and drawbacks. Witschen said it means it's hard to ever leave work when it's right there at home, too. And the Fort Ripley residence didn't have the store front curb appeal as the well-traveled intersection in Brainerd.

Electrical Options plans to open in mid-July. It's near Sunshine Kitchen Moonshine Lounge, Brainerd Car Wash and the Triangle ice cream spot on Mill Avenue.

Witschen and his business partner Jason Smude are the driving forces behind the Electrical Options business.

Beyond sales and service, the business will have related supplies for retail. Witschen said he believes the business fills a void in the area and will stock items that are hard to find and not readily accessible. The Schwiky Meats building has been largely empty for a couple of years, Witschen said.
