The most recent Crow Wing County Community Health Survey found that one in three adults have worried about running out of food during the past 12 months. Our local food shelves help address this need on a daily basis in our community.

Watch for a fishing boat parked at your local grocery store in Emily and Garrison and consider filling it with healthy foods and funds to support the local food shelf:

• Emily Food Shelf collection will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Lake Country Foods and Gas Inc., 40327 Minnesota State Highway 6 in Emily.

• Garrison Food Shelf collection will be June 25 at the SuperValu, 178 Monroe St., Garrison.

These food shelves along with Cuyuna Range, Crosslake Emergency and Lakes Area in Pequot Lakes have worked with Crow Wing Energized to organize their food shelf to showcase and promote healthy choice first. When donating to the food shelf please consider these healthy items first: grains like oats and brown rice; proteins like nuts, beans and canned fish; and fruits and vegetables.

When buying an item or two to place in the boat from the healthy foods list, consider changing out a sugary item in the cart for a healthy one as well to impact the health of people's own household.

Crow Wing Energized is a grassroots community movement led by Essentia Health and Crow Wing County Community Services to improve health and wellness in our community by making healthy choices essential.
