An anonymous donor has given St. Joseph's Foundation a very generous gift of $280,000 to support Community Health Initiative grants.

This is the second of two large donations to St. Joseph's Foundation in recent months. A gift of $150,000 was also received from the Lakes Area Medical Development Association in July.

This most recent gift will be used to provide Community Health Initiative grants through Essentia Health - St. Joseph's Foundation. The foundation reached a major milestone this past year by awarding more than $1 million in community health grants since 1996. Over the years the foundation board has awarded between $20,000 to $60,000 annually to over 200 community organizations that align with Essentia Health's mission and vision. The health organization reported that mission to be "we are called to make a healthy difference in people's lives."

Essentia Health reported there has been great diversity in the grants awarded from placing automated external defibrillators in the public and training high school students how to use them to funding health education programs, fitness programs, sports associations as well as efforts to prevent teen pregnancy and suicide.

"This donor has seen the impact that our Community Health Initiative Grants have in our community and has a heart and passion for community health and wellness," says Foundation Director David Jeremiason in a news release. "It's truly a remarkable gift that will enable our board to fund even more healthy initiatives in our community."
