Sean R-J Zauhar, a 1996 Brainerd High School graduate, recently graduated with his Ph.D. in criminal justice from Walden University.
Zauhar received his Master of Police Leadership from the University of St. Thomas. He is a 19-year law enforcement veteran. Currently, he is a sergeant/recruit academy coordinator with the St. Paul Police Department. He is also employed as an adjunct law enforcement instructor at Rasmussen College’s law enforcement program in Eagan.
Zauhar is the crisis intervention coordinator for his police department. He has created a network of prominent mental health professionals from the region to reform the process by which individuals in mental health crises interact with the criminal justice system. He has taught police combative training over the past 15 years, worked in a variety of capacities from patrol, special investigations and SWAT operations.
Zauhar is the son of former Brainerd residents Jill Zauhar Backberg, Bob Backberg and the late Bill Zauhar. He resides in the metro area with his family.
