The Mid-Minnesota Women's Center in Brainerd received a $20,000 donation Friday, Jan. 11.
The donation was made in the memory of 96-year-old Brainerd resident Faye Hickerson-Echternacht, who died New Year's Eve 2018, in an effort to enhance the lives of people who need the organization's services.
"She believed one's strength and dignity are necessary for a vibrant and progressive community," a news release stated. "It is hoped that the principal of this endowment will be enhanced from contributions made by Faye Hickerson-Echternacht's friends and family members and by those who believe in the good work (the women's center) board of directors and staff perform for the Brainerd lakes area."
The women's center and Central Lakes College were two of Hickerson-Echternacht's biggest passions, the release stated.
"It is evident Hickerson-Echternacht cared deeply for the Brainerd lakes community and passed that love on to her children. All of us at Mid-Minnesota Women's Center thank the Hickerson and Echternacht families and will keep Mrs. Hickerson-Echternacht's memory alive," the release stated.
