Family hurt when van crashes, hitting a road approach and a tree

REMER-A family of four were injured Sunday when the van they were in crashed and hit a tree off Highway 200 near Remer in Aitkin County.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported a Toyota Sienna was westbound on Highway 200, when it went off the road into the right ditch and struck a road approach. The van then vaulted over the approach, hitting a tree and landed in the ditch.

The driver, Mahmood Y. Seyala, 77, Staples, and his spouse, Susan J. Seyala, 70, both of Silver Springs, Md., and their two adult children, Layth M. Seyala, 46, Highland, Md., and Suzanne Seyala, 46, Hermantown, all had non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to the hospital in Grand Rapids.

Remer Ambulance, Remer Fire and the Aitkin County Sheriff's Office assisted the state patrol at the scene.

The crash was reported at 1:55 p.m.
