Art focus: Brainerd High School orchestra.
Adviser nomination: "Jimmy is a member of the BHS Chamber Orchestra and is in the violin section. He is an incredibly reliable student who asks questions, is extremely organized and reacts calmly and professionally to challenging situations. Like many orchestra students, Jimmy is highly involved and has a full schedule, but is a master at prioritizing. He is an extremely valuable member of our orchestra."
Memorable fine arts achievement: Being accepted into Chamber Orchestra this year.
Other fine arts activities: Wind symphony and debate.
How long have you played the violin: "This is my fourth year playing the violin, I started playing in seventh grade. I play percussion in wind symphony. There are multiple reasons why I decided to play the violin, one being it was the most comfortable to hold. I wanted to be in orchestra and I have continued to play the violin because I like it a lot."
Have you tried other string instruments: "My sister plays the viola, so I tried that at home. I liked it. Basically, it's just a little bigger.
Why do you enjoy playing in the orchestra: "It's the environment. Everyone is really supportive of each other."
What are you working on now: "We have solo and ensemble contest coming (this week) and I am in a trio and a quartet. The quartet is playing 'The Bird' by Hayden and in trio we are playing 'Suite in B Flat Major' for three violins by Georg Telemann."
Something special happen at last concert: "We organized to give a bouquet of carnations to Mr. Frie (orchestra director.) I was inspired by a concert I watched over the summer and they gave the conductor flowers afterwards. The timing worked out as we were selling carnations on Valentine's Day, the day of the concert."
Most challenging skill on violin: "There is no one thing that sticks out, but there are a lot of variables you need to focus on at the same time, such as tone and rhythm so balancing it all together I would say is a challenge."
Your strongest skill: "Following Mr. Frie's suggestions he offers."
Dream job: "I want to be a scientistic or physics of some sort. I like science."
Favorite TV show: "Child Genius."
Favorite book: "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn."
Weakest subject: English.
Favorite movie: "Finding Nemo."
What did you eat for breakfast this morning: "Oatmeal and a hard-boiled egg."
Clubs: Key Club, Interact Club and Spanish Club.
What other instruments would you like to play someday: "The harp or the cello."
Biggest pet peeve: "When people don't treat others fairly."
