In the midst of the Oct. 5, Monday night’s Brainerd City Council meeting, Brainerd Fire Chief Tim Holmes ran out of city hall after being paged at 8:18 p.m. to a conveyor fire at Crow Wing Recycling, 714 Industrial Park Road, Brainerd.

Council members and staff could hear the sirens and wondered what the fire call was about. When firefighters arrived and investigated, it was determined there was no fire. Holmes contacted the city administrator who informed everyone that everything was fine.

The Brainerd Fire Department also responded to three calls Tuesday beginning at 1:31 a.m. for a carbon monoxide alarm on the 900 block of South Sixth Street, which was determined to be a maintenance matter. Firefighters were called at 8:53 a.m. to a fire alarm on the 8000 block of Cook Road, but were canceled en route. Firefighters were called at 2:22 p.m. to a grass fire on the 18000 block of Pine View Lane, near the Paul Bunyan Trail. Firefighters extinguished a half acre of brush on fire. The DNR assisted.
