Quenching rains have apparently relieved extreme fire conditions that were a factor in a number of wildfires in the Brainerd lakes area last month, including a 300-acre fire near Motley.

As of Sunday, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources restrictions allowed for campfire burning and variance burning permits in much of the north part of the state, including the lakes area, but all other burning remained prohibited.

Fire danger for the area was classified as "low-fires not easily started" according to the DNR.

The National Weather Service forecast for Brainerd called for rain showers with an 80 percent chance of precipitation for Sunday night as well as Monday. Monday's high was anticipated to be near 44 degrees, with a northeast wind from 10-15 mph and wind gusts up to 20 mph. There may possibly be a thunderstorm before 4 p.m. Monday, the NWS said.

Tuesday will be partly sunny and with a high creeping up to about 52 degrees. An east wind will blow about 10 mph, with gusts up to 15 mph, the weather service said.

The forecast also called for a slight chance of showers Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
