The Brainerd Fire Department responded at 8:32 p.m. Monday to the Laurel Street bridge area to assist the Brainerd Police Department.

No assistance was needed. The call came after there was a report of a person in the Mississippi River. The individual walked into the river and was again standing on the shore when fire and police rescue units arrived. The bridge is near both the police and fire station.

The person in the river was a juvenile runaway who had left PORT Group Home and jumped into the river. Staff followed her and pulled her out. She was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.
