A house and garage were engulfed in flames early Sunday in southern Crow Wing County but everyone inside escaped without injury.

When law enforcement arrived on the scene in Platte Lake Township southeast of Brainerd, the buildings were ablaze and the fire was spreading into the woods. The caller who reported the fire and said everyone was out of the house.

Brainerd Fire Department crews responded at 12:51 a.m. Sunday to the home on the 17000 block of County Road 132, on the southern edge of Crow Wing County, and extinguished the fire. The property is about 17 miles away from the Brainerd Fire Hall on Laurel Street in Brainerd.

Overhaul was conducted to make sure all the hot spots were extinguished, including a large amount of tires, Brainerd Fire Chief Tim Holmes stated in a news release.

The garage and house were a total loss with an estimated value of $45,000.

The fire department reported the homeowner is being assisted by the Salvation Army and neighbors.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, but is not believed to be suspicious, Holmes stated. There were no injuries.

The Garrison Fire Department, Pierz Fire Department, North Ambulance, and Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office, all assisted at the scene, which involved 26 firefighters.
