GARRISON — A triple stall garage and a shelter housing fowl were destroyed by a fire Tuesday, May 11, just northeast of Garrison.
The Garrison Fire Department was called just after 9 p.m. to a structure fire on the 25000 block of Highway 18. Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy flames overtaking a chicken coop structure alongside the triple stall garage, Garrison Fire Chief Bruce Breun said. The garage was unattached and the house was about 60-70 feet away from the fire.

Breun said the flames had already reached the rafters in the garage and destroyed the structure, along with killing the fowl inside of it. It was not known what type of fowl died in the fire or how many.

About a dozen firefighters battled the fire and were on scene for about three hours. Breun said it was a difficult fire to put out as the garage was full of household goods and other items. The estimated property damage from the fire was well over $100,000, the fire chief said.
Breun said the residents in the home, who saw the fire and called 911, were safe and not injured.
