Fire in chicken coop destroys chickens

The Brainerd Fire Department was called to a chicken coop fire at 10:35 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at a residence on the 16000 block of Gilbert Lake Road.

Upon arrival, the chicken coop was engulfed in flames with a minor extension of the fire to the nearby garage. The fire destroyed about five chickens and caused minor damage to the garage, the fire department reported.
