CUYUNA — Close to 30 firefighters from the Ironton and Cuyuna fire departments responded to a house fire Sunday, Aug. 23, northwest of Rabbit Lake in Wolford Township.

The Ironton Fire Department was paged at 11:34 p.m. to the house fire on the 21000 block of Rabbit Lake Drive, north of Crosby.

Ironton Fire Chief Jeff Thompson said the homeowner was sleeping when he heard crackling, went to investigate and saw the fire. Thompson said the kitchen and living room area were destroyed by the fire and the bathroom and office areas sustained damage from the fire. He said the fire was contained to the area where it started except for some attic spread over the bathroom and office adjacent to the presumed ignition point. The kitchen and living room ceiling and roof failed due to fire and heat, he said.

There were no injuries.

Thompson said the fire likely started in the attic of the rambler home and is presumed to be accidental, with the possibility of the cause being electrical. The Minnesota State Fire Marshal's office is investigating to determine the exact cause of the fire.
