The Brainerd Fire Department was called to rescue a cat at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday at a residence on the 600 block of Norwood Street. The cat was stuck in a frayed tarp. Brainerd police stood by as firefighters rescued the cat. Police attempted to make contact with the owner, but did not succeed.
Firefighters had two other calls Tuesday. Before the cat rescue, at 11:18 a.m., firefighters were called to a residence on the 1400 block of Eighth Avenue Northeast for a fire. Firefighters investigated and determined it was food in a microwave that caused the fire. At 3:42 p.m. firefighters responded to the Paul Bunyan Trail near the Northland Arboretum for a lift assist, but were cancelled en route.
On Wednesday, firefighters were called to assist with a crash at 11:49 a.m. on Highway 371 North.
